The cooperative
MORE THAN JUST BRINGING THE GRAPES…
Our task goes far beyond growing and bringing the grapes to the winery. We are committed to enhancing the product with an eye to the future, hoping that the Erbaluce wine can grow and establish itself more and more.
Our journey began in 1975, when 13 members decided to found the cooperative and chose the Ubertini Agricultural High School as headquarters for the winery.
At that time, most of the winemakers did not spend all of their time in the vineyards, as their main job was working for the most important factories in Piedmont, like Olivetti in Ivrea, Bull in Caluso, Lancia in Chivasso and Fiat in Turin.
Since they weren’t able to make wine from the grapes of their small plots of land, the winemakers decided to join forces. This improved the wine industry of the area as the cooperative acted as a glue. It prevented the depopulation of the area, while also giving a future to the production of the Erbaluce di Caluso.
Initially, the Erbaluce vine variety was used only for the production of the passito (dessert wine). Techniques have evolved over time and now we are able to make four types of wine from this variety. Many generations of winemakers are working together to offer elegant wines that are widely appreciated by our customers.
